Cypress Cathedral

In June of 2003 I was fortunate to take a trip to the Monterey Pennisula a play a few of the great golf courses there. This photo was taken from within the Cypress cathedral. The Cypress cathedral is the religous walk you take from the 15th green to the 16th tee. As you leave the 15th green you enter a grove of Cypress trees that completely engulf you. Ancient sentinals surround you, branches twisted, gnarled and arching overhead. The sound of the ocean is muffled as you begin this journey. The warm and glow of the sun are blocked. The temperature drops. Progressing deeper, one starts to gain a sense of calm, rays of sunlight occasionally pierce the branches. It is dark and quiet, you have just played a beauty of a hole and know what awaits you. Anticipation builds. Somehow you are at ease and antsy at the same time. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but that will just be the beginning. Posted by Hello
